Granary Road Active Learning Park – GRAND OPENING

The Granary Road Active Learning Park is celebrating this year’s grand opening on May 7! The Granary Road Active Learning Park is full of informative tools, including trivia questions, education walls, games and activities that will energize, entertain and educate! With so many fun features and one-of-a-kind play areas, whether you’re an animal lover, bug fanatic or gardener, there’s something for everyone!

EXHIBITS

Ant Farm Adventure: This exhibit features a 4-storey structure with slides, ant eggs, statues and climbing nets. You’ll learn about ant anatomy, ant colonies and all about life from an ant’s point of view.

Arachnid Web: With spider swings and a giant web climber, this exhibit will teach about spider webs, the anatomy of an arachnid and various types of spiders.

Bat Cave Hang Out: This exhibit takes you through education tunnels with real aged bats and an echolocation bat maze teaching about baby bats, bat diets, and the spooky vampire bat.

Bee Hive Honeycomb: This exhibit will explore the tools of a beekeeper including a real beekeeper suit, life inside a bee hive and fascinating facts about bees.

Chicken Coop: The chicken coop is home to numerous chickens and hens, and teaches about egg anatomy, the reproduction cycle and fun facts about chickens!

Cropland Grow Row: Here we have huge sand pits for kids to play while being surrounded by barley, wheat, canola and rye. You will learn about Alberta’s agriculture and the cultivation of crops.

Farm Friends Petting Zoo: The working farm is home to goats, pigs, alpacas, bunnies, a pony, a miniature pony, sheep, a donkey, a peacock, turkeys, chicken, and even two cute little barn kittens.

Frog Pond Fun Pad: Featuring in-ground trampolines and lily pad spinners, this exhibit teaches about the 4 main stages of frog metamorphosis, frog anatomy, different species of frogs and fun facts about frog skin.

Mushroom Meander: This exhibit takes you through an enchanted mushroom forest where you get to explore the anatomy of the mushroom, poisonous mushrooms and learn about mushroom DNA.

Orchard Treehouse: The orchard features a giant apple slide, pear slide and a suspension bridge, taking you through a fruit fantasy land teaching about the growth cycle of fruit trees, anatomy of an apple, and lots of other fun facts.

Wetland Discovery: The wetlands feature a terrarium and dock home to many amphibians, insects and plants with the goal of teaching about Alberta’s ecosystem and its inhabitants.
