Scotty McCreery Damn Strait #1 on ACC with Kix Brooks

Kix Brooks and ACC are on CISN Country 103.9 Edmonton and Country 105 Calgary Saturday’s 8 AM to Noon.

Scotty McCreery’s Damn Strait is #1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart, followed by American Country Countdown.

“Every now and then you hear a song that sounds so much like you. I grew up as a huge George Strait fan, and when I heard this song, I raised my hand to say, I want this one. Every country fan has a George Strait story, and everyone has a memory attached to their favorite songs. The first country music concert I ever went to was George Strait, Reba and Lee Ann Womack. When I saw that show, I said, I’m gonna do that one day.”

“I had an email from Kevin Herring at my label, and he said, Hey, take a listen to this song. It just came through for you, and I kind of had a little mini freak-out session because I’m a huge George Strait fan. I love the different tidbits in there of songs of his. It’s a classic country breakup song, but it’s also paying homage to George Strait throughout the song. It’s so cleverly written. If you’re a country fan, a George Strait fan, this song is so cool.”

Damn Strait is Scotty’s fifth straight Country Airplay #1 and the second song from his LP Same Truck.

“I grew up as a huge George Strait fan, and when I heard this song, I raised my hand to say, I want this one. Every country fan has a George Strait story, and everyone has a memory attached to their favorite songs.”

“My first country music concert was George Strait, and along with my love for Elvis Presley, he inspired me to become a country music singer myself. When I did American Idol, George called me and requested I sing his 1995 hit Check Yes or No, and I still sing it from time to time in concert. Now, having my fifth straight #1 on a song that pays tribute to George, while at the same time being a classic country heartbreaker such as he might have sung, is such a full-circle moment that means the world to me. Trent Tomlinson and Jim Collins wrote a clever song that reaches beyond name-dropping Strait hits to tell a meaningful story.”

Scotty and his wife Gabi are expecting their first child, and their due date is easy to remember: It’s Halloween.

“We’ve gotten to live a lot of life and do some cool things, so seems like now’s a good time to settle down a little and expand the family.”

“I was pretty sold it was going to be a girl, and I think she did too. So we had a girl name picked out, but we didn’t have a boy name. So we’re still in the process.”

The Damn Strait music video was directed by Jeff Ray and filmed at the historic Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, built-in 1878. A venue frequently played by George Strait early in his career before he signed a record deal.

“I knew I wanted to film it at a place that paid respect to both elements of the song. When my director Jeff Ray suggested Gruene Hall, where George performed regularly with his Ace in the Hole Band before becoming the legend that he is today, I knew that was the perfect location.”

“You can feel the history and the music of country music’s past and present in every inch of that venue. I’ve wanted to visit Gruene Hall for a long time, and now that I have, I’m looking forward to eventually coming back there to do a show.”

Scotty celebrates his new #1 with a concert at Gruene Hall on September 23, 2022.
